Made as part of a pitch for a children's music video, 'The Big Day Out' is a short animation following the fun adventures of Ellie as she meets a group of different vehicles. During the design process, we used a combination of bold primary colours and simple shapes as these two aspects are important to keep a young audience engaged throughout. Warm colours were also used to elicit happiness and comfort.
We kept the vehicles vibrant and recognisable, each vehicle having a happy smiley face allowing for reactions when the main character interacts with them. We chose a mainly blue and green colour scheme for our backgrounds as a relaxed and calming setting, with the characters being a contrasting red/orange to show they’re energetic, lively and eye-catching.
